Kindergarten Program (available at
select locations)
Sunbrook Academy is committed to the total
needs of your Kindergarten child. It is our goal to provide opportunities for your child
to master the basic skills needed to be a productive, successful learner. Through
interaction with real literature, problem-solving situations and hands-on materials, your
child will have experiences with the many phases of learning. With our small group size
and a low teacher/student ratio, we are able to meet the individual needs of each student.
Our Kindergarten curriculum is based on a combination of nationally reputable programs
designed to enhance your child's academic knowledge. We offer a wide variety of
whole-class, small group and individual activities. This combination works to aid in the
development of your child academically, socially, physically and emotionally.
The Language Arts program, Lives of the Letter People, is research-based and
classroom tested nationwide. It focuses on reading strategies with a primary emphasis on
phonemic awareness. A variety of activities occur within a framework organized
around initial and final consonants, short and long vowels, consonant blends, digraphs and
literature. Much time is spent learning to read and write with this wonderful blend of
whole-language and phonics. Our Mathematics
and Science program is a nationally recognized curriculum called "AIMS"
(Activities Integrating Mathematics and Science), a hands-on program designed to provide
opportunities for exploration, patterning, problem solving and basic computation. The
classroom equipment and materials have been specially chosen to create many opportunities
for successful discovery and investigation.
Completing our Kindergarten Program are opportunities for free expression in art,
music, physical education, computer instruction and Spanish. Sunbrook Academy's Parent
Involvement Program includes regularly scheduled conferences, monthly student assessments,
informational newsletters and family homework activities.
We welcome your child and family to our Kindergarten Program and are excited to share
in your child's early education. We look forward to a wonderful relationship based on the
growth and development of your child.
