The Whole Child
We are committed to facilitating a program that focuses on the whole
child...socially, mentally, emotionally, developmentally and academically. Our program is
accredited by the Georgia Accrediting Commission and follows the NAEYC guidelines for
developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education.
The Foundation
Recent brain research studies indicate that the early years in a child's life is
the foundation of the learning process. At Sunbrook Academy, we believe in building a
strong foundation and a love for learning to provide a successful future for our children.
The structure of our curricula is an organized framework that represents
the concepts children are to learn, the process through which children achieve the
identified goals and objectives, how teachers help children achieve these goals and the
context in which teaching and learning occur. Learning while having fun!
Foundations Curricula
Sunbrook Academies use a combination of curricula: Foundations
is an interactive, thematic, and conceptual based program that begins with our Infants and
continues through our Private
Kindergarten program. It includes group and individual
activities, social studies, math, science, language, creative arts, and physical education
lessons. Our program encourages the development of readiness skills through storytelling,
literature-based activities, real language experiences, math manipulatives, science and
discovery experiments, free-form art, outdoor challenges and other hands-on activities.
AlphaTime Phonics
AlphaTime is primarily a phonics program that has been time tested in
elementary school systems nationwide. We have integrated AlphaTime into our curricula to
balance out the
language-reading learning process. The children learn and identify letters
along with beginning and intermediate sounds in a fun and creative lesson plan.
Scope and Sequence
The
intellectual area of development is the area most often associated with education.
Intellectual development includes basic skills and concepts such as numbers, letters,
colors, and shapes. The classroom plans the Scope and Sequence monthly, based on
Language, Color, Shape, Relationships, Helpers, Math, Science, and Values. Parents share
in the development of their children's learning and life skills by building on the
classroom experiences of the day and re-enforcing the skills and/or concepts at home.
We are committed to
facilitating a program that focuses on the whole child...socially, mentally,
emotionally, developmentally and academically!
